Kevin Dobson on All Night Long

I had a chance to talk to Kevin Dobson about filming All Night Long and he shared a good story with me. According to him, this location shot pictured above was the first scene Barbra filmed in the movie. That morning Barbra was driven to the set in a new white Rolls-Royce Corniche by the studio. Kevin and Gene Hackman were already on the set and Kevin told Gene that the studio was paying for the Rolls. (How Kevin knew this I don't know, I'm just telling you what he told me. I'm also assuming the studio drove them to the location, but in something more modest). Gene's response was "Oh Really?" (with a bit of attitude thrown in). Gene Hackman's agent as Sue Menger, who was Barbra's agent at the time. Anyway, the next day, Gene was driven to the set. . . .in a white Rolls-Royce Corniche too.

The lighting is really bad in this shot. I didn't want to wait around a few hours for a better shot. I had more Barbra locations to scout out in the area.
I did talk to a waitress while I was there and she worked there back then when they filmed the movie. She got to watch the scene where Hackman and Streisand walk from the coffee shop back to the drug store. She didn't get to talk to them because as she put it, "they were big stars".

I wasn't a big fan of All Night Long when it came out. But after watching it again now 30 years later I can identify with Gene Hackman's character.

We're inside the Bevelry Hilton Ballroom now (yes, the same one the hosts the Golden Globes). I don't remember exactly what we had for dinner. I think chicken of some sort. But I'm a big fan of desserts so I took this photo.

The program. As far as programs go, this one is fair. I was disappointed that Barbra's face wasn't on the cover. I'm sure you are too. There are the typical congratulatory ads inside. Mostly text in black, silver or gold on a white background. A few images in black and white. Berry Gordy received a 2001 legend award that evening too so some of the ads are for him. That's about it.
