Irvin Kershner

These are the cue cards used for Irvin Kershner's speech for the AFI Lifetime tribute to Barbra. His speech was heavily modified for television. In fact I think they only used the last two sentences (if memory serves me correctly).

The Way We Were network airing

It's hard to imagine in this day and age, but having a network airing of a movie use to be a big deal.

The Way We Were filming locations Part 48

The two crooked trees in the background are still there.

The Way We Were filming locations Part 47

The fountain (and this whole area) was also filmed for "The Graduate". Dustin Hoffman sits on the fountain's perimeter waiting to see Katharine Ross on campus. The USC campus doubles for Berekely.

The Way We Were filming locations Part 46

This is one of the deleted scenes from the movie available on the DVD. It was shot on the USC campus. The road Barbra drives on is now a pedestrian walkway.

The Way We Were filming locations Part 37

I waited around until dark to take this shot also. However, the lighting was way off (too dark) so I'm using this earlier shot.

We're back in Ballston Spa now for these scenes.

The Way We Were filming locations Part 35

This is the same area that Robert Redford jogs through earlier in the movie.

The Way We Were filming locations Part 34

One thing that amazed me while visiting the campus was the number of current students who had never seen the movie. They have heard of the movie and were aware that it was filmed there, but most of them hadn't seen it. You would think it would be mandatory for all in-coming freshmen to watch the movie.
There is an obscure movie from the '40s called "We've Never Been Licked" that was partially filmed at Texas A&M University and it was screened annually. If you didn't watch the film as a freshman you were ostracized! The Way We Were is a better film- maybe I should have attended Union College.

The Way We Were filming locations Part 33

Not much to reminisce about in this room anymore. I wanted so bad to sit in the same seats Barbra and Robert sat in. Too late now. Even the door along the back wall has been replaced.
There should be a plaque outside the main door describing what was filmed in this room- some sort of historical designation so the current students can appreciate the history of this room when they walk in it. I'm not joking! (Well maybe a little).

The Way We Were filming locations Part 32

Another one of my favorite scenes is this classroom sequence.
