Flea Market find

A vintage (and slighly faded) photo of Barbra from the Central Park concert was for sale at the 24th Annual Broadway Flea Market. If you are interested in it, too late. When I walked by later, it was gone!

24th Annual Broadway Flea Market

Here's a signed Playbill from I Can Get it For You Wholesale. It was auctioned off at the 24th Annual Broadway Flea Market and Grand Auction on Sept. 26, 2010. It was a silent auction and the price was up to $120 before I left for a matinee of Addams Family. I'm not sure what the final price was. I asked them if it was a vintage signature or was it signed specifically for this event. They did not know.

Barbra Streisand's first recording, 1961

I was in New York City over the weekend and had to schlep uptown to the Park Avenue Armory to check out the first recording being auctioned off at Guernsey's auction. It looks like you also get a CD version in the white sleeve.
The record did not sell from what I can tell. (Too bad I didn't bid $1 for it!).

September 27, 1977

I hope you don't mind a little self indulgence, but I had to post this one today. It's my birthday cake from Sept. 27, 1977. "Buddy" is my family nickname in case you're wondering. Oh, to be 17 again.

White Hotel

Here's another project that never materialized. When this was first reported I was in college and I knew a girl who had read the novel and she told me Streisand would be perfect for the part. Of course, now we will never know.

I'll have to see if the novel is available at the library. It might be fun to reminisce about what might have been.

First Artists Annual Report 1978

This is another annual report mailed to stockholders of First Artists stock. I posted the 1977 annual report back in December 2009. I got these reports because I actually owned stock in First Artists at that time. I was a minor, but my dad was able to purchase it for me.

Back then when you purchased stock they would send you the actual certificate. I also owned a couple of shares of Disney and their certificate had an image of Mickey Mouse on it. I figured the stock certificate from First Artists would have an image of Barbra on it- it didn't! The stock ended up being pretty much worthless- so I kinda know how Hillary Kramer feels.

Ended up selling the stock in the early '80s. Of course now the annual reports are worth more than the value of the stock.

Barbra's "cameo" in The Owl and the Pussycat

Barbra made a "cameo" appearance in one of her own movies! If you look at the bottom row of magazine covers, you'll find Barbra and Walter Matthau from Hello, Dolly!

The New Amsterdam theater - Columbia ranch

This is an aerial shot of the Columbia ranch back in the '50s. The "New Amsterdam theater" is circled in red.

The New Amsterdam theater - The Monkees

Yes, even The Monkees performed at the "New Amsterdam theater".

The 1964 comedy Good Neighbor Sam includes a quick shot of the "New Amsterdam theater" too.

The New Amsterdam theater

The New Amsterdam theater used in Funny Girl was on the backlot of Columbia studios (also known as the Columbia ranch). The backlot is now known as the Warner Brother ranch. Sadly the Vista theater (as it was called) and this whole part of the backlot is now gone.
The theater pops up in a number of movies and television shows. The screen capture above is from Bikini Beach. (Yes, I actually watched that movie).

Hello, Dolly! on TV Part 2

I didn't watch the original presentation of Hello, Dolly! on TV or the rerun-- or should I say the "rebroadcast of a special film presentation"?

and Other Musical Instruments

This image was cut from the cover of the local TV New newspaper magazine- promoting Barbra Streisand . . . and Other Musical Instruments. Once again- if I only had the whole magazine . . . . . .

Singer presents

I vaguely remember this special. I keep thinking there was a Lily Tomlin special on another network at the same time. I knew Lily from her appearances on Laugh-in. I think I flipped channels and ended up watching Lily's special instead.

The Best of Barbra

Strange combination for a double feature. I'm assuming at the time these were the only two Columbia studios pictures Barbra had made.

What's Up, Doc? on network television

This was the television viewing of What's Up, Doc? that started the ball rolling for me to becoming a Barbra Streisand fan.

Streisand Film Festival

Forget Cannes and Sundance, this is my kind of film festival. It took an act of Congress but I convinced my parents to drive me into San Antonio to see Funny Lady.

Meet the Fockers on location Part 12

I took this shot which turned out later to pretty much match a scene from the movie.
