Yet Even More from The Rookies

A great chase sequence with the Hello, Dolly! street also appeared in Season 1, Episode 4 of The Rookies. The bad guy was being chased around the back lot of a movie studio and ended up running along the elevated train track. You can tell in the top photo that the background buildings were simply painted on a flat plane to look real. There's a French word for this painting technique (can't think of it, but if I do, I'll let you know).

Summer Movies

Couldn't agree more with Joyce Longteni. A Star is Born is the movie I most want to see again this summer! I love how they consider Mann's Chinese Theater the heart of beautiful, downtown Hollywood. Back in the '70s it was anything but that.

The Funny Lady Pajamas

Guess who's been sleeping in Billy Rose's pajamas? It's Bruce Dern in Won Ton Ton, the Dog Who Saved Hollywood.

Barbra for President

Barbra (Streisand) for President! Now that's the ticket. Question is, who would be vice-president? Robert Redford?

Barbra in 1975?!?

Most fans would recognize this image from Barbra's first cover of Life Magazine. If you look closely you'll notice a few wrinkles. That's because this illustration is suppose to show what Barbra would look like in 1975! As best I can remember Life Magazine did an article in 1965 about what celebreties would look like 10 years from now. Guess they thought she'd keep her original hairstyle along with the dress.

BCBGmaxazria

Here's a copy of a page from an institution magazine for BCBGmaxazria talking about Barbra shooting a scene from Meet the Fockers at one of their stores.

Barbra's Wedding

I attended Barbra's wedding! Not the real one, of course- the off-Broadway show. I can't give the play a ringing endorsement. It wasn't that good. It had a couple of Barbra references, that's it. At least I like the poster.

Bette on Barbra

Bette VS. Barbra. I'm not even going to go there.

Even More from The Rookies

The park doesn't look too safe now either. I don't think these guys are going to break out singing and dancing anytime soon. These shots are also from Season 1, Episode 1 of The Rookies.

More from The Rookies

More shots from Season 1, Episode 1 of The Rookies. The Hello, Dolly! neighborhood has really gone downhill.

The Rookies

The Hello, Dolly! street at 20th Century Fox was used in a number of scenes from the TV series "The Rookies" in the early '70s. This is a shot from Season 1, Episode 1. The street was grittier on the TV Show. Dolly wouldn't want to be walking around here at night anymore.

Funny Girl/ Funny Lady

Another page from the Swank catalog. A couple of interesting tidbits about Funny Girl. It was available in CinemaScope (technically, it was filmed in Panavision). Of course, why would you want it cropped? The running time is coming in at 161 minutes. On IMDB.com it's showing a time of 151 minutes for the general release and 155 minutes for the roadshow version. Even the DVD is listed at 155. So where are the extra 6 minutes coming from? I guess you have to order the "CinemaScope" version to find out! Love the Funny Lady photo too.

Barbra is "in"

Newpaper clipping after the Clinton election. Of course Barbra is "in".
